Optimisation of Patient Flow and Scheduling in an Outpatient Haemodialysis Clinic

The demand for renal replacement therapy (RRT) from the growing number of patients suffering chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end stage (ESRD) in Nigeria is reported to be on rise. However, dialysis clinics are few with limited facilities meet increasing leading congestion, long waiting time increased length stay (LOS) clinics. This paper presents an optimisation model scheduling patient flow outpatient haemodialysis clinic. objective minimize LOS using Genetic Algorithm (GA), implemented Python programming language Spyder Integrated Development Environment (IDE). was tested data obtained a clinic, Lagos, Nigeria. generated optimum values (193.01, 275.02 390.01) minutes compared mean at clinic (235.50, 296.62 424.50) 3-hour, 4-hour 6-hour sessions. Furthermore, simulation experiment typical performed by gradual variations arrival rates, ?. Simulation results (?=0.1,0.2,0.3,0.4) revealed (minutes) as (312.85 ± 73.45, 348.18 84.89, 342.18 81.30, 305, 28 63.67) respectively. effective reducing LOS.
